Moving along the phases of development continuum means that less teacher scaffolding is required, until students are able to use it seamlessly. Making adaptations to the prompts:You can make adaptations to the prompts depending upon the stimulus you are using and the type of thinking you want to illicit from your students.
Personally, I like to add observing and noticing to the 'see' prompt as it builds students' observational language. As the students become more comfortable with the routine I find that they begin to use the language of this prompt in classroom discussions. What types of thinking does this routine use? This routine employs a variety of different thinking moves to help students develop their understanding.

I find that it is the wonder part that my stage 2 students are having difficulty with at the moment. Just need to persevere. I find that these students also find inference difficult to understand as well so I am hoping that by embracing this strategy there will be a carny on effect in their reading as well.

Thanks for sharing Steph. I wonder if the prompts What do you think is missing? or What is the author/artist not telling us? might help students with inferring. I definitely think modelling who you are as a thinker- your wonderings and inferences will definitely help them build this valuable skill. Good luck ?

Thanks Michelle ? My aim is to blog about different routines to support teachers in using them on a regular basis. Is there any thing in particular you are looking for that I can add to the posts??
