This Traffic Light Reflection routine is an adaptation of the Red Light, Yellow Light thinking routine. It invites learners to examine their current understanding of concepts and skills through:

• utilising a colour coding system
• examining where learning is currently at
• identifying ways learning could move forward
• justifying their response with reasoning

​Documenting Thinking
In this routine, students may or may not record their thinking. It can be very useful to document thinking, reasoning and goals, although this is not always necessary.

Here are some examples of ways the traffic light reflection can be used across the curriculum:

• Reflecting on a sequence of learning experiences (Any Learning Area)
• Reflecting on a design and produce challenge  (Science)
• As part of a learning conference with students to track progress over time

I have also used this reflection routine for helping educators reflect on their own practice during professional development workshops.
