Below you will find a collection of resources I have used to support the development of student reading and comprehension. Many of the learning experiences are scaffolded using thinking routines adapted from the work of Ron Ritchhart and templates from Sheena Cameron and Louise Dempsey. Students often read, analyse and synthesise lengthier pieces of literature, especially as they move in to Years 3 to 6 and beyond. One of the learning experiences students in my classroom engage in at the conclusion of reading a text is to engage in a review of the text. 

Depending on the number of sessions you allocate, this Book Review In A Bag Project! can vary in duration from 2 weeks to 4 weeks.

The review is comprised of 8 unique components designed to support students as they share their understanding of the book in different ways.

1. Introducing It: sharing the key information people observe when they first pick up a book
2. Summarising: synthesising the key ideas in the book in order to provide a short summary.
3. Comparisons: identifying the similarities and differences between two characters 
4. Vocabulary: highlighting and understanding key language found in the text.
5. Visualising: illustrating a key location using clues from the text.
6. Peel The Fruit: exploring the layers of the text
7. Exploring Changes: exploring how a text changes when a key element is changed
8. Reviewing It: writing the final review
