Two weeks ago A.J Juliani shared the name of this great book he had recently read, called The Innovator’s Mindset written by George Couros and the #IMMOOC movement. So I decided to look into a little further and ordered the book. It arrived two days ago and I’m already hooked after the 1st chapter.
As a technology leader at my school this is one of the toughest parts of my job. I love looking for new ideas and innovative ways of teaching and learning in order to improve educational experiences and outcomes for my students. My motto is to lead by example, share, encourage and support my colleagues in creating experiences for students that go beyond what we have traditionally done before, especially when it comes to integrating technology. The challenge I face is encouraging some colleagues at my school to take that initial step, leap or risk to try something new. Questioning what we do and why we do it is essential for innovation. Some of us are ready to jump right in, ask those questions and bring about change based on our reflections; some ask the questions but are tentative and hold back until they feel more confident and better equipped to cope with change and others for whatever reason just seem to float along without ever really questioning what or why because that‘s the way they’ve always done it.
