This made me stop and think about my own students. How do I measure their thinking? and How do I take this knowledge to push their thinking further?
What I find really interesting about this continuum is that different students demonstrate different levels of wondering in different subject areas, depending upon their level of curiosity and engagement with the learning experiences. The challenge, I guess, then becomes how do we foster those skills so that they can become independent and self-regulated thinkers that can engage with curiosity and wonder no matter what the provocation or experience is. The teacher focus component of this continuum provides educators with a number of strategies to support students as they learn to push their wondering and curiosity further. At the end of the day, we need to provide our learners with the time, opportunity and right support to engage with their wonderings, to explore them, to delve deeper and to recognise that the thinking move of wondering is what really drives life-long learning.
